Barefoot Beach House is located directly across the street from Richardson Beach Park, Hilo's premier beach. The home was built in 1938 and once served as the area's post office. It is now a beautifully updated, fully furnished cottage, perfect for your dream vacation. The beach is so close you don't even have to put your shoes on to walk there! Barefoot Beach House is a welcoming three-bedroom, two-bathroom home great for families or small groups. The large, window-lined living and kitchen area features charming details, including a brick fireplace and coffered ceilings. It is a wonderful place for everyone to enjoy meals and hang out, with the beautiful backdrop of the jungle and Richardson Beach Park right outside your windows. The lanai is the perfect spot for relaxing or checking out the surf. On the property, you will find a natural fish pond, various tropical fruit trees, and a grassy area for the kids to play. The home's driveway can fit up to three cars. The house features single-floor living, but it has five steps leading up to the front door. Our Neighborhood
​Richardson Beach Park is Hilo's premier oceanfront park, offering fantastic snorkeling, fun surfing, and great swimming. It has a rare black sand beach with a lifeguard tower. It is a popular place to see Honu (Hawai'ian green sea turtles) and humuhumunukunukukapua'a (the state fish), and in the winter, humpback whales during their migration. The shores of Richardson blend directly into a half-mile-long stretch of fantastic beach parks with beautiful bay views, nooks and crannies to explore, and sheltered picnic pavilions. A lovely mile walk (or drive) from Barefoot Beach House on Kalaniana'ole or the less busy Nene Street will take you to another one of Hilo's top beach parks, Carlsmith.  Carlsmith is a great swimming beach with a sandy bottom, and is another fantastic place to see honu. Our home is only 5 miles from various grocery and box stores, as well as Hilo's Bayfront shopping district, where you will find the famous Hilo Farmer's Market, antique and souvenir shops, and incredible restaurants. Hilo International Airport is a simple 12-minute drive. Our home is an excellent base for exploring Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, the waterfalls of the Hamakua Coast, and all the lush jungle parks on the windward side of the Big Island of Hawai'i.​ For further details on all the many wonderful things there are to do and see while staying in our home, see the "Things To Do" section of our website.

Just returned from a ten day stay and.....WOW!!!!! The attention to detail could be seen and felt in every room. It's right across from Richardson Beach with beautiful ocean views. We fixed multiple meals and it was nice to have quality kitchenware to use. No corners seemed to be cut, including the washer and dryer, which came in more handy than expected. Attention to detail extended beyond the inside of the home. Forgot my water shoes, but they had plenty available for me to choose from. Planned on buying an ice chest, but guess what? They had that, too. They had snorkel equipment, which was much appreciated when we visited all the beaches along Kalanianaole St., with each beach being better than the one before. We saw sea turtles and tons of tropical fish. We even saw a wild pig walking down the street. We went on multiple excursions, all of which were easy to get to. Robert and Erinn excelled at communication. I would recommend Barefoot Beach House to anyone and everyone.
